SF Chamber Players concerts

The San Francisco Chamber Players will include two movements of Street Scenes in upcoming performances at Dominican University [Oct 2014] and St Marks in San Francisco [Jan 13, 2015].

At a Busy Intersection Premieres

The San Francisco Chamber Players will premiere piano quartet At a Busy Intersection in San Rafael in October 2013.

Sounds New Music Ensemble Performance

The annual concert of new music presented by the Sounds New Music Ensemble in the Berkeley area will be featuring Heli Elu Seitse for their March 2013 program.

David was awarded a regional grant from ACMC/GASP to introduce Music into the curriculum in a series of guest artist presentations at the local junior high and high schools in the Ukiah valley during Spring semester.

140 Composers collaborate to create a single work honoring John Cage centennial (2012)

David Smith is one of 140 composers to contribute to a work envisioned by Ensemble Business. Each composer created a variation on a theme by Erik Satie. These were combined into a single score and performed by E. B. Find the results here!

Steve Lin and Kris Palmer will present concerts in Ft. Bragg and Ukiah

Russian River Portraits by David Smith will be a featured work of the upcoming program series by Black Cedar Duo, consisting of award-winning soloists Steve Lin and Kris Palmer. The concert features musical selections with a water theme from many composers. Two performances will be in Mendocino county on Nov 3 (Ft. Bragg) and Nov 4 (Ukiah).

Deep Valley Chamber Music Series continues into its 5th season (2012)

With a full board and some years of momentum, DVCMS continues into its 5th season 2012-2013, providing top notch performers from nearby and abroad, including the Afiara Quartet, the Merling Trio, the Tilden Trio, the Alexander String quartet, Avenue Winds, the Ives Quartet and many others.

Russian River Portraits completed
(2011)

I wrote this duo for guitar and alto flute expressly for Steve Lin and Kris Palmer; three episodes describing the beautiful Russian river that winds through Mendocino and Sonoma counties. Performance is anticipated next year.

Performance of the Neon Trio

Commissioned trio for winds is premiered at DVCMS

John and Nancy Buechstenstein commissioned a work that became Three Daughters: Allison, Laura and Caitlin. Three movements for wind trio featuring respectively flute, horn and clarinet; these instruments are the ones studied by the three young women. Hear it here.

(2009)

Woodwind quintet Avenue Winds from the San Francisco bay area includes my wind quintet "New Beneath the Snow" on their program for the Deep Valley CM Series.

Vigil for Iraq, Poetry and Choral Music
(Oct 2009)

An evening concert of music and poetry by local artists honoring the dead, the wounded, the grieving, and the dispossessed. The show will feature two new choral works Prayer for Iraq by David Rounds and Three Fingers of Light by David Smith. In each case the lyrics were co-written in collaboration with fine poets: David Smith-Ferri & David Rounds, and Theresa Whitehill & David Smith.

The Ukiah Valley Madrigal Singers will be singing, and Benj Thomas will narrate. Clovice Lewis, Jeff Ives and Burton Segall will play the viola, cello and bass in Three Fingers of Light. David Smith-Ferri and Theresa Whitehill will read as well.

Friday, October 16 at the Ukiah Players Theatre, 1041 Low Gap Road, 7:00 p.m.

Wind Trio at the Tallman Hotel

Lake county wind trio will perform at the Tallman Hotel in Upper Lake California. The performance will include a piece of David’s When Time Expands, arranged for bassoon, bass clarinet and English horn (Ann Hubbard, Nick Biondo, Beth Aiken).
