Short Bio David Smith first discovered music making at nine years old, but the motivation to practice languished as junior high approached. His musical interest was rekindled while a college freshman at UC Santa Barbara, and he began composing at the piano and studying music (on a parallel track with his studies in Physics and Electrical Engineering). UCSB's College of Creative Studies introduced him to new musical ideas and technologies. Although work, romance and family have offered their usual distractions, he has always found his way back to his musical calling. He now lives in rural Northern California, writing for chamber ensembles, chorus, and orchestra. www.ninetrees.com quotes: I create... and I love that instant when I realize that something new exists before me. --- I want the listener to have an experience--an emotional response that continues to resonate within after the notes have stopped. A sigh of melancholy, a rush of adrenalin, a flash of beauty, a sense of connection... a moment when the mundane falls away, and all seems right with the world.
