The members of Deep Valley Chamber Music Society of Ukiah, California are pleased to announce our inaugural 2008-09 Season, presenting three concerts this year on our main program. This season will include four and five part renaissance choral music, a brass quintet, and a string quartet. Get the Season Brochure.

An additional concert has been added to our regular season program:

Wind, Waves & War are subjects of these songs of Baroque Venice, in a concert of vocal duets accompanied by the lute. Baritones Jim Denton and John Conry and lutenist Sarge Gerbode will provide this rare and beautiful music opportunity at the museum. The duets are composed by Claudio Monteverdi and the solo works are by Barbara Strozzi.

Our very own Dora Street Brass Quintet will be bringing a concert of classical and popular music for brass, with a program including works by Bach, Rimsky-Karsakov, MacDonald and Bizet, plus enthusiastic renditions of brass classics.

Al White, Jay Johnson, Darren Michaels, Larry Price, Dale Spencer on trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba.

The Deep Valley Chamber Music Society was founded by two local music-lovers: David Smith and David Rounds. These two Ukiah residents share the ambition of bringing top-flight classical music performers to the Valley, and at the same time presenting local chamber ensembles that specialize in classical styles.

Deep Valley Chamber Music Society

Mission

To enrich the musical life of the Ukiah valley by presenting a quality chamber music series.

Objectives

• Provide a regular venue for chamber ensembles and solo recitalists
• Present performances by local and regional ensembles and soloists
• Present music by local composers
• Encourage collaborative performance ensembles
• Emphasize the classical chamber tradition, while also offering fine performances of early music and classical jazz and music from around the world
• Emphasize chamber ensembles, supplemented by solo recitals
• Encourage young musicians via performance opportunities, master classes and scholarships
• Create a classical music endowment, operating through the Ukiah Community Foundation
• Provide the opportunity to complement musical performance by collaborating with other media artists (lighting, film, staging)
• Present at least three performances in the 2008-09 season, with a goal of five in the future
• Create an annual festival for chamber music
